My grandfather Cox was a professional fiddler and played from Arkansas to Bakersfield, California in the 40’s-50’s. He played with some of the greats, Spade Cooley, The Light Crust Doughboys, etc while my grandmother was home raising the kids. One day she had enough of his late night ‘juke joint’ hours, so after a heated protest when he returned late one night, she smacked him with a frying pan and threw his fiddle in the creek. He continued to play locally, winning fiddling contests for years, but he became a family man after that.
I now have one of his famous fiddles that was handed down to me, but my point to this story is that sometimes when folks aren’t acting right, a little behavior modification by ways of well-seasoned cast iron is justified. And at this point in our country, it wouldn’t hurt for these to be mass produced.
